Michael was in denial: Janet Jackson

jacksonPopstar Janet Jackson has opened up on her brother 'King of Pop' Michael Jackson's drug usage for the first time insisting that her family tried really hard to force him into rehab.

The singer admits the siblings staged numerous interventions in an effort to help the late superstar but he refused to accept that he had a problem.

"We tried it several times and he was very much in denial," said Janet in an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The 43-year-old singer said that she and other family members always feared that Michael's life would end the way it did.

"I felt that day could possibly come; I think everyone thinks that who has a family member or a friend (in trouble)," Janet said.

Jackson died in June last year after suffering a cardiac arrest due to overdose of drugs.

Michael Jackson's doctor faces license suspension

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - California's attorney general asked a court on Tuesday to bar Michael Jackson's former doctor, Conrad Murray, from practicing medicine while he faces charges in connection with the pop star's death.

U.S. | Entertainment | People

Jerry Brown filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court on behalf of the California Medical Board asking that a judge restrict the medical license of Murray, who faces involuntary manslaughter charges, as a condition of his bail.

Murray was attending to Jackson, 50, before his sudden death last June 25 and police say he has admitted to investigators that he gave the singer the drug propofol to help him sleep. The powerful anesthetic is typically used on patients undergoing surgery.

"(The) Defendant is alleged to have administered a lethal dose of propofol and other powerful drugs to patient M.J., which resulted in the patient's death," Brown said in the 12-page court filing.

"The exercise of such poor professional judgment and placing the life of a patient in jeopardy requires that the (California Medical) Board take measures to protect the public from future harm."

Murray, a cardiologist who was hired last May to care for Jackson as the entertainer prepared for a series of comeback concerts, has pleaded not guilty. He is free on $75,000 bail and faces four years in prison if convicted.

Murray has been the focus of a police probe since the Los Angeles coroner's office ruled Jackson's death was a homicide, caused by propofol and the sedative lorazepam.

Toxicology tests following an autopsy also found painkillers, sedatives and a stimulant in Jackson's body.

Murray and his legal defense team have insisted he did nothing wrong and Murray told police he was not the first doctor to give Jackson propofol to help him sleep.

Last month, a judge rejected a request by Los Angeles prosecutors to suspend Murray's license but ordered him not to use anesthesia on his patients.

Brown, a former California governor who announced on March 2 he would seek the Democratic nomination for the governorship, has waged a campaign against doctors who over-prescribe drugs.

Among the cases his office has investigated are the February 2007 death of former Playboy playmate Anna Nicole Smith, 39, of a prescription drug overdose.

Smith's longtime companion, Howard Stern, and two doctors have been ordered to stand trial in connection with that case, which was brought by Los Angeles prosecutors.

Brown has said his office will also investigate the March 12 death of 38-year-old actor Corey Haim, apparently of a prescription drug overdose.

Michael Jackson’s doctor Conrad Murray will reportedly use old video footage of the pop legend as defence against the manslaughter charges against him.

Lawyers for Dr. Murray want to use footages of a spaced-out Jackson to demonstrate the depth of his drug habit, News of the World reported.

The personal physician is set to stand trial on an involuntary manslaughter charge for administering propofal to Jackson shortly before his death in June last year.

Key videos will include footage of a frail Jackson during his This Is It rehearsals and a 2007 court deposition where he discusses his pain medication.

“Murray’s legal team have quietly but steadily been building a robust defence case. A key element will be on-camera interviews Michael Jackson gave where he discusses and admits his drug use and others where he appears to be intoxicated,” said a legal source close to Dr. Murray.

“In effect, Michael Jackson himself will be the defence’s star witness as they set out to prove he was a seasoned and habitual user and knew how to self-administer,” the source added.

The lawyers also want the pop icon’s children Paris and Prince to describe how their father constantly complemented Dr. Murray and claimed that he was “making him better”.

Steven Randall "Randy" Jackson on October 29, 1961 in Gary, Indiana) is an African-American singer and musician, a member of the Jacksons, and is the youngest son in the Jackson family. He is the eighth out of nine Jackson children to be born.

Early career

He joined his older brothers in The Jackson 5 at age 11 (1972) playing the conga. Randy did not sing until he and his family began performing their act in Las Vegas. Randy often sung with younger sister Janet, and the duo won fame on Dinah Shore's show in 1975 after performing Mickey & Sylvia's "Love is Strange" for the first time on national television.

Enter the Jacksons

In 1976, after moving to CBS Records and changing their name to The Jacksons, Randy was named as the newest member of the group after Jermaine left to have a solo career in the group's former label, Motown. In 1978, Randy helped the Jacksons return back to fame after co-producing the album, "Destiny". One of the songs, "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)", was co-written by Randy and Michael, and went on to sell over 2 million copies becoming the group's biggest-selling single to date

Randy Jackson, Michael Jackson's Brother

The youngest Jackson brother, Randy, 47, earned the nickname "Little Randy" when he joined the family band in 1976, after they changed their name from The Jackson 5 to The Jacksons. At age 16, he wrote The Jacksons' most successful single on Epic Records, "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)." He fell on financial troubles later in life -- in May 2008, the New York Post reported he's doing odd jobs like fixing cars to come up with cash. Asked about how the family is doing outside Michael's Bel Air home Tuesday, Randy told reporters, "We're making it.

The Randy Jackson from American Idol is not the same Randy Jackson who's the brother of Michael. Michael did have a brother...
Randy Jackson said in a statement that the family has pleaded with the press "to give us one moment of privacy to mourn as a family out of the public spotlight."

Instead, he said, a camera on a helicopter "severely disrupted" the service.

"I was dismayed last night and again today at the coverage I saw on television of our ceremony for Michael," Randy Jackson said.
